World Asthma Day – May 6, 2025 - In 2023, 3,624 people in the U.S. died from an asthma attack. Let that sit for a moment.

Each of those deaths was a tragedy—and many of them were preventable. On this World Asthma Day, we must face a hard truth: premature death from asthma remains a stark failure of our healthcare system. Asthma is not a mere inconvenience. It is a life-threatening condition that claims lives daily—and yet, it continues to be treated like a common cold.

Recently, a story in the news struck a nerve. It was about Reid, a 28-year-old who died in 2020 after an asthma attack. His parents have since joined with the American Lung Association of Northwest Ohio in raising funds to support asthma education, school training, emergency stock medication, and student resources. Reid’s story echoes so many others—and it brought back to me one of the inspirations behind DailyBreath.
